Humidity is a crucial factor, which affects
various forms of life and activity. Even your curly hair frizzes
and straight hair goes limp when the humidity increases. Hygrometer
is an instrument, which measures the relative humidity (water
vapor content) of atmosphere. Though, basically a weather
instrument used in weather stations, it can be used as a health
product also.
Most of the bacteria, fungi and virus thrive
on higher humidity and usage of a hygrometer helps us to proactively
avoid problems, help in reduction of moisture and implement
control strategies. Its helps both humans as well as
indoor plants to be healthy within the residences. It can
be conveniently installed in homes and offices besides adding
a touch of class.
Hygrometers have two thermometers; one is kept wet and the other one dry. The wet one is cooler unless it is extremely humid. The humidity is calculated by the difference between the two thermometers. Did you know that hygrometers are also used by defense personnel, race car specialists, gardeners, musicians, wood workers, green houses, cigar connoisseurs, allergy prone individuals, ecologists, museums, aircrafts, textile industries, food industries, photography and saunas? Almost every person in every sphere of life can benefit by using a hygrometer.
There are varieties of hydrometers available in the market like digital, dial, cigar, thermo etc which can be wall mounted, wireless, pocket sized, portable, pen-style, stick or sling styles and also with LCD displays with comfort indicators also.
Initial hygrometers used strands of hair since they are sensitive to atmospheric changes. Going into the history of hygrometers - In 1400s, Leonardo Da Vinci was the first to conceive a hygrometer, a more practical one was designed in 1664 by Francesco Folli. In 1783, a swiss physicist and geologist, Horace Benedict de Saussure built the first hygrometer using a human hair. In 1820, the hygrometer using electrical resistance was found by John Federic Daniell.
In a nutshell, hygrometer in modern days is
a perfect companion for preferred healthy life style and not
just a meteorological gadget.
